Which firewall to choose
Firewall ACT, pfSense, or FortiGate: quick comparison
| Criteria | Firewall ACT | pfSense | FortiGate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best for | Branches, offices, and networks of up to 50 hosts | Corporate networks that need robustness and flexibility, without a proprietary license | Environments that need the highest level of inspection, control, and visibility |
| Inspection layer | L3/L4: stateful firewall | L3/L4: stateful firewall | L7: application inspection (NGFW) |
| IPS, antivirus, and application control | Not included in this tier | Not included: for L7 inspection, FortiGate is the recommended tier | Included from the entry-level model up |
| Link resilience | Multi-WAN with failover, load balancing, and weights | Multi-WAN with failover, load balancing, and weights | Intelligent multi-link SD-WAN |
| System | Hardened Linux/BSD, maintained by ACT | Hardened BSD, maintained by ACT | FortiOS on an enterprise appliance, with hardware acceleration |
All three tiers include 24x7 monitoring by ACT's NOC via Zabbix.

Frequently asked questions
Get your questions answered before you talk to us
Do I need to replace my entire infrastructure to hire ACT?
No. Existing environments are taken over as they are. When it makes sense for the operation, ACT leads the migration to a more modern setup, but that's never a prerequisite to get started.
How does technical support work? What are the hours and channels?
Business hours run from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, with tickets opened, triaged, and tracked in GLPI from start to close, with automatic escalation when an issue needs a more advanced technical level. Outside those hours, monitoring and on-call coverage stay active 7 days a week.
Is my data stored in Brazil? Does ACT follow LGPD?
Yes. Services like ActMail, Cloud Backup, and Act Cloud run on data centers in Brazil, with data stored on national soil and adherence to LGPD.
What's the response time when something goes wrong?
It depends on the contract in place, but our lowest SLA can be as fast as 2 hours.
Which firewall fits the size of my network?
It depends on your size and inspection needs: Firewall ACT covers networks of up to 50 hosts, pfSense fits corporate networks that need more robustness, and FortiGate is the only tier with layer-7 inspection, IPS, and SD-WAN from the entry model up. See the full comparison in the Security section.
Does ACT serve companies outside Brazil?
Yes. Our strongest presence is in Brazil and Paraguay, but we serve clients anywhere in the world, including companies with offices in the US and Europe.
